ABOUT MCRCI

MCRCI, helping Canadians explore a more natural alternative.

Many Canadians with serious medical conditions do not respond well to conventional medical treatment and may be helped by marijuana. In Canada, possession of marijuana is legal only for qualified patients, and how those patients qualify is defined by Health Canada’s Regulations. The latest set of Regulations, in effect as of October 1, 2013, are called the MMPR, or Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations. They require that patients must have the support of a physician or nurse practitioner to use marijuana, and must purchase their medicine from a producer licensed by Health Canada. The MMPR are replacing the old Regulations, the MMAR, or Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations, under which a qualified patient could also grow marijuana for personal medical use. Such Personal Use Production licences are no longer valid under the new MMPR.

The Medicinal Cannabis Resource Centre Inc. (MCRCI) is a private organization created to assist patients, by providing guidance in the use of cannabis for medical purposes in a compassionate and non-judgmental environment, and enabling them to meet Health Canada’s requirements to use cannabis legally.

If you are interested in knowing if you qualify to obtain cannabis for a medical purpose, please fill out the questionnaire. The staff at the Centre will review the information and contact you with the next steps.

The Centre does not provide patients with a family physician or a specialist. The Centre works with doctors who have an understanding of cannabis and its medical uses. Those doctors confine their care to issues related to the medical use of marijuana and take responsibility for the support of Health Canada applications. One of the staff members of MCRCI will review your medical history and a doctor’s appointment will be arranged if you qualify.

The Centre charges for its services. These services include assisting patients in gathering their necessary medical files, arranging for them to see a doctor affiliated with the Centre, choosing a licensed producer, and providing guidance in the use of medicinal cannabis. The charge to patients also covers the cost of uninsured medical services performed by the doctor, which include a preliminary review of patients’ medical files, completion of necessary documents, and communication with the Centre. The cost of attended visits with the doctor is covered by the applicable Provincial Health Insurance Plan. If you do not attend in person, there is an additional charge to cover the cost of physician video contact, which is not a provincially insured service.

Committed to being on the forefront of research and development, MCRCI is now embarking on a clinical research study with medicinal cannabis.
